Sports Cards: Hunt to Exit

Category-specific collection guidance. It organizes intake and review; it does not create identity proof, a valuation, or a recommendation.

  1. HUNT

    Target the exact card

Begin with player, year, brand, product, set, card number, and the exact insert, parallel, or variation sought.

    • Keep Wishlist targets specific enough to distinguish base, parallel, variation, serial run, autograph, and relic cards.
    • Carry the same identity terms into Player & Card Search, Find Deals, auctions, and newly listed inventory.
    • A promising price or presentation signal is only a lead for Inspect; active asking prices cannot establish a BUY.

  2. INSPECT

    Verify identity and condition

Confirm the physical card before valuation, with special attention to formats and near-matches that can look alike.

    • Field Scan should capture front, back, grading label, serial numbering, and closeups of corners, edges, surface, autograph, or relic details.
    • Treat Standard, Mini, Jumbo, and Oversized as material identity; unknown format is not proof of Standard.
    • Record raw versus graded, grading company, grade, certification or autograph authentication, centering, creases, print defects, and alterations.
    Open inspect workflow →
  3. DECIDE

    Require qualified evidence

Let the protected live Sports intelligence qualify exact sold evidence and explain whether the card is actionable.

    • Sold comps must match material identity, format, variation, parallel, insert, grading, and serial details; adjacent cards are context only.
    • Hidden Gem presentation signals identify candidates only—they are never automatically a BUY.
    • BUY and STRONG BUY remain subject to the existing evidence gates and mandatory final Vision verification.
    Open decide workflow →
  4. OWN

    Preserve collectible provenance

Carry verified identity and acquisition evidence into Passport and the Inventory Locker without manufacturing a live value.

    • Passport should retain player, year, brand, product, set, card number, insert, parallel, variation, format, serial, autograph or relic, grading, and certification fields.
    • Inventory Locker should present raw or graded state, condition notes, acquisition cost, images, provenance, and evidence freshness together.
    • Value Improvement ideas such as grading, authentication, or conservation require cost, condition, authenticity, and alteration-risk review; they do not guarantee value.
    Open own workflow →
  5. EXIT

    Plan an evidence-backed sale

Evaluate timing and venue using the same exact identity carried through Hunt, Inspect, Decide, and Own.

    • Exit Advisor should account for exact-card liquidity, market depth and freshness, fees, shipping, insurance, taxes, and auction versus fixed-price tradeoffs.
    • Recheck condition, certification, and current evidence before listing; stale or weak evidence remains weak evidence.
    • Preserve Passport and Inventory provenance in the listing, and do not claim profit when costs or validated value are incomplete.
    Open exit workflow →

Opportunity labels are shown only when the existing ProspectIQ identity, sold-evidence, recommendation, and Vision requirements are satisfied. Active asking prices alone do not establish a BUY.
